Project: Women’s History Month Social Series for Outside Magazine
Role: Content Strategist, Writer, Social Media Producer
Platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok
Content Types: Historical Spotlights, Carousels, Quote Graphics, Reels
Overview: For Women’s History Month, I created a social media series that celebrated groundbreaking female adventurers from history—spotlighting figures like Ada Blackjack, Tillie Anderson, and Gertrude Ederle. I sourced and repurposed material from an archived Outside Online column, transforming long-form editorial into engaging, shareable content designed specifically for social media.
Each post told the story of a different woman who defied the norms of her time to push boundaries in exploration, endurance, and sport. I crafted punchy, informative captions, paired them with archival imagery or vintage-style graphics, and developed a cohesive visual approach to unify the series across platforms.
Key Contributions:
Researched and adapted editorial content for modern social formats
Wrote captions that were both educational and accessible, honoring the legacy of each woman while engaging a broad audience
Designed or sourced compelling visuals to match the tone of each story
Created carousel and Reel formats to boost engagement and discoverability
Scheduled the series as a month-long campaign, timed with relevant awareness days
Impact:
Elevated Outside’s brand voice as a platform that celebrates diverse and underrepresented stories in the outdoors
Sparked strong audience engagement, including saves, shares, and positive feedback in comments
Drove interest in historical storytelling as part of Outside's broader content mix
Opened conversations around representation, gender, and outdoor legacy with a contemporary lens
